The abadas, or the traditional white pants that are part of the uniform of the majority of capoeira groups, are the essential and most distinctive capoeira garment. Since 2001, Capoeira-Shop has been selling capoeira clothes. During all those years we have worked with several different manufacturers in Brazil, looking to produce the best abadas. Oh yes, we could tell you many stories of receiving pants with all kinds of defects from missing hems and belt loops, to faulty stitching and sizing... but we learnt our lessons. With the experience of these years, we gradually improved the quality and fit of the pants. In 2007, we have finally set up our company in Brazil, working together with local NGOs, in order to be able to control the production process from beginning to end and therefore to ensure the best quality of our products as well as variety and originality of fabrics and styles.
QUALITY: Through our label Arte Capoeira Fightwear we have been researching the best material to ensure that our pants will survive many rodas and that the color, that bright white that characterizes a lot of Afro-Brazilian traditional clothing, won't turn yellowish or grey after a few weeks. Our abadas are produced with helanca a fabric composed of 100% polyammide, the best quality thread for sportswear because of its elasticity, softness and strength. Most Brazilian manufacturers make capoeira pants with helanca made with polyester which is cheaper, but it is lighter and tends to change color and spoil much earlier. Capoeira-shop offers traditional abadas in polyester at a lower price only upon request for wholesale orders.
We currently also offer other alternative fabrics for abadas such as cotton fleece (like sweatpants), cotton fleece mixes and supplex.
Our manufacturing company has been recently estabilished, therefore all the equipment has been bought recently and includes the latest generation machines. For example: all abadas are triple-stitched thoroughout to ensure duration; all pieces and their parts are finished properly.
DESIGN: Capoeira-Shop has been the first capoeira online store to introduce abadas in different fit for men and women. An essential improvement given the difference in the body shapes and the need for a good fit for all capoeira movements and acrobatics!
The pattern of our abadas includes a special crotch round piece that distributes the pull on the stitches and allows stretching for all capoeira movements. Our customer can also notice small differences in design that give an overall better appearance and comfort to our capoeira pants compared to those of other manufacturers. For example: from Spring 2008 all our street pants (i.e. colored pants, not abadas) have pockets, a small detail common in sportswear but that has been missing so far from capoeira pants.
